New guidelines for application of plastic pipes onboard ships


IMO have recognised the necessity for improvement of marine safety standards, resolutions A.753(18) and MSC.313(88), which concerns plastic materials used onboard ship, to ensure the marine industry maintains the highest practical level of passenger safety.

 

New test methods - stricter criteria:

 

  • Flame spread: No burning droplets
  • Smooke: The Dm value shall not exceed 400 in any test condition
  • Toxicity: The average value of the gas concentration measured under each test condition shall not exceed the following limits:
