BLÜCHER drainage system for the Goliat oil platform

Goliat FPSO

BLÜCHER has been chosen to supply the complete drainage system for the Goliat floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) unit. The FPSO is being built by Hyundai Heavy Industries in Ulsan, South Korea and is bound for the Goliat field in the Barents Sea, 85 km northwest of Hammerfest in Norway.

The FPSO uses a cylindrical design by Norwegian company Sevan Marine, known as Sevan 1000. Sevan Marine has previously designed floaters which are already in use in Brazil and the North Sea. For the Goliat field, the FPSO has a specially designed solution to withstand icing and to ensure that rain and snow drain naturally from the walls and roofs. It is also designed to comply with the strict environmental requirements stipulated for operations in the Barents Sea.

From South Korea to Norway
Hyundai Heavy Industries was awarded the order for the FPSO after a tender in 2009, ahead of a joint offer from Aker Solutions and Samsung Heavy Industries. In February 2010 the deal worth USD 1.1 billion was signed, with delivery set for mid-2013.

Hyundai Heavy Industries will handle the entire project including engineering, procurement, construction, onshore commissioning and transportation from Ulsan to the Barents Sea. The transportation will be done by the Dockwise Vanguard which can handle transports up to 110,000 tons.

The Goliat FPSO will be able to to produce more than 100,000 barrels of crude oil per day as well as 3.9 million standard cubic meters of gas per day. The platform’s storage capacity will hold up to 1 million barrels of oil.

Complete BLÜCHER drainage system
Hyundai Heavy Industries will equip the Goliat FPSO with a complete stainless steel drainage system including drains, channels, pipes, fittings and customized solutions from BLÜCHER. The choice of the BLÜCHER drainage system came directly from the oil field’s developer ENI Norge due to their good experiences from using BLÜCHER in previous projects.
